Nicolaas Johannes Janse van Noordwyk was born on 1 June 1886 in Swellendam, South Africa, to parents Willem Hendrik Janse van Noordwyk and Jacoba Margaretha Lourens. He was baptized on 29 June 1886 in Swellendam, with Nicolaas Johannes Janse van Noordwyk, Anna Margaretha Louw, Nicolaas Janse van Noordwyk, and Margaretha Aletta van Noordwyk serving as witnesses[1].
In 1910, Nicolaas married Dina Maria Lourens in Swellendam when he was 23 years old and she was 19. They both lived in Klipfontein at the time of their marriage[3]. By 1914, Nicolaas was working as a farmer and living in Oudeplaats, Bredasdorp. He continued to work as a farmer for many years, and in 1958, he retired from farming[2].
Nicolaas and Dina had four children together: Cornelis Janse Janse van Noordwyk (born 1914), Nicolaas Johannes Janse van Noordwyk (born 1916, died 1984), Johannes Gerhardus van Noordwyk (born 1920), and Hendrik Jacobus Janse van Noordwyk (born 1923)[2].
He owned two properties during his lifetime: Stand No. 28 in Welgelegen, Swellendam, and Stand No. 8 in Swellendam. He lived at both properties at different times in his life[2].
Nicolaas passed away on 4 October 1956 in Swellendam at the age of 72. He was survived by his wife Dina and his four children. In his will, he named his wife as his executor and left his estate to her[2].
